The Prestige Series Combines Window Film with High Technology

Our 3M™ Prestige Series of window films is comprised of hundreds of layers of film specially designed to cause light waves to reflect off of its surface. They are compressed into the thickness of a piece of paper. The precision with which light waves are controlled as they pass through or reflect off of hundreds of layers of film is the secret to this film’s incredible energy efficiency. This window film will help you lower energy costs, eliminate hot spots, reduce glare and protect carpets, drapes, and furniture from UV rays.

It Actually Works Harder as It Gets Hotter

All window films are tested when the sun is perpendicular to the window. The 3M™ Prestige Series window films are tested and perform best when the sun is high, at the hottest part of the day. They increase their performance at a faster rate as the sun’s angle changes and the heat increases. It’s amazing technology that will save you on energy costs. This advanced window film will:

  • Reject up to 97% of infrared light
  • Reduce up to 78% of the sun’s heat
  • Block up to 99% of harmful ultraviolet rays

How to Block Damaging UV Rays without Blocking the Sunlight

Sun-Damaged Hardwood Floor PicUltraviolet rays, also known as UV rays, are the dangerous rays from the sun that can cause skin cancer. Limiting your exposure to the sun and wearing sunscreen is recommended for human protection. But skin is not the only thing UV rays can damage. They are also responsible for damaging many items in your home. Drapes, carpets, upholstered furniture, walls, artwork, even hardwood floors can be faded and dried out from these harmful rays. Anything in their path is at risk. The team at Tintmaster has put together a list of options for homeowners to consider when looking to protect your home, including window film.

How Can You Protect Your Home and Furnishings from UV Rays?

There are several ways to protect your home from these damaging rays. Some are more expensive than others, but read on and compare so you know your options

Replacement Windows

Replacement windows with UV resistant glass can keep the rays out, but this is not an affordable option for most homeowners as they are a large investment. However, if you are considering replacement windows, don’t underestimate the importance of UV resistant glass.

Curtains & Drapes

Curtains and drapes will certainly block the UV rays when they are closed, but unfortunately, they also block the sunlight which some people enjoy, especially in sunrooms. Plus, don’t forget that over time, the fabric of these shades and drapes will suffer from sun damage and need to be replaced.

Shutters & Awnings

Much like curtains shade the interior of your home, shutters and awnings serve the same purpose on the outside of your home. They also have the disadvantage of blocking much of the light while blocking the UV rays.

Window Film

UV blocking window film will block the UV rays, while letting light in, and is a much more affordable option than replacement windows.

3M™ Automotive Window Film FX HP Series

With this window film, you can expect high performance and high style. Its outstanding heat rejection coupled with a sleek charcoal finish makes this product series popular among luxury car owners. It keeps you cool and protects you from UV rays by rejecting up to 55% of the total solar energy coming through your car windows and blocking up to 99% of UV light.

In fact, it provides a total Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of up to 1000 for you and your passengers. You can choose from a variety of tint levels to suit your taste – up to 95% visible light blockage. This will increase your privacy and protect any valuables you leave in your car from prying eyes of passersby.

3M™ Automotive Window Film Color Stable Series

Do you think you have to get tinted glass from the factory to have the right look? Think again. The Color Stable Series rivals tinted factory glass in its rich appearance. The nano-carbon is dispersed throughout the thickness of the film, so it will look great and perform at a high level for years with no chance of the film turning purple.

It also keeps you cool and protects from UV rays by rejecting up to 57% of the total solar energy coming through your windows. Like the FX HP Series, it  also provides a total Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of up to 1000 for you and your passengers and is also available in different tint levels that block up to 95% of visible light for privacy and security.

The main difference with the Color Stable Series is that the Color Stable Series incorporates a unique process for producing nano-carbon polyester. This revolutionary process allows the film to reject heat without using a metal film layer. The metal film layer can interfere with radio and/or satellite signals. The Color Stable Series film lets you stay connected with mobile devices, GPS, or satellite radio reception without interference.

3M Window Film Case Study – Pittsburgh’s Clayton Mansion

Mansion with Window Film PictureThe sun is an unrelenting foe when it comes to aging and fading of upholstery, carpet, drapes, and even wood floors. So when a historic home in Pittsburgh required protection from the damaging effects of the sun, 3M window films came to the rescue. Tintmaster of Sacramento brings you the story.

Victorian Mansion Undergoes Renovation

The Clayton Mansion in Pittsburgh was built in 1860. This Victorian home featured pieces of art, antiques, rare fabrics, handpainted wallpaper, and other priceless and irreplaceable items that needed to be protected from the sun’s UV rays.

In 1990, the mansion underwent a $6 million renovation of the first two floors. Protecting the furnishings and floors was a major priority. Covering the windows on the first two floors with window film was the solution.

Window Film Kept the Look Authentic While Protecting the Contents Within

Not just any window film would do. Since window film did not exist in the 1800s, the protective film must be undetectable to any of the mansion’s visitors. The solution was 3M’s Neutral 50 window film. It provided the protection needed without any noticeable change to the appearance of the windows. In fact, you can’t tell any difference between the windows on the first two floors and the windows on the third floor that have no film.

3M Window Film Is Clearly the Leader

Because of the cost of the project and the value of the items being protected, only 3M window film was considered for the project. At last report, eight years after the installation, no furnishings had been lost to fading or sun damage. The window film continues to adhere tightly to the windows, including curved windows, and no one even knows the window film exists! It’s a beautiful example of how adding a modern improvement can help preserve a piece of the past.

Great Window Tinting Results Guaranteed

Adhesive is the number one concern we have when it comes to quality, and after years of installing window tinting, these two companies have proven to be the most dependable. The Case of the Room with a View – A 3M Window Film Commercial Case Study

Commercial Window Tinting PicIn the heart of downtown Los Angeles, lives a beautiful office building with an absolutely stunning space on the 25th & 26th floors. Built in 1982, the 26-story building encompasses an entire city block and has more than 700,000 square feet of office space. When new tenants, CBRE Global Investors bought the building in 2012, they decided to locate their global headquarters in the atrium-like 25th and 26th floors.

Big Views Meant Big Problems

The space was laid out in a tiered mezzanine configuration with huge sloped skylights that provided fantastic views of the downtown area. Unfortunately, the same windows that made this space so spectacular brought along with them some serious problems.

Heat Gain and Glare Made the Space Uncomfortable

When John Bonomo, CBRE’s Director of Operations, spoke to previous tenants, he found that they had some serious complaints about the space. Massive heat gain through the skylights made it hard to keep cool and beyond that, there was a huge issue with glare from the direct sunlight. Luckily, CBRE, had a great deal of experience with a product specifically designed to address the issues: 3M Window Film.

Window Film to the Rescue

Several options were considered to combat the problems the sunlight was creating. They considered installing window shades, but the sheer size of the space – 11,000 square feet of glass – plus the possibility of breakage and repair coupled with high maintenance cleaning needs ended that plan. Window tinting provided a maintenance-free solution. They used 3M Sun Control Window Film Night Vision 15 window film. This window film would reject the heat, block the glare and preserve the beautiful views that the architects had in mind when the space was originally designed. It was the perfect solution to this commercial building window problem.

Happy 3M Customers

Interior Window Film PhotoThe project was still a massive one. It required scaffolding to be built which took a week to construct and a week to tear down. The actual installation took a week as well, but the results were well worth the effort. “We’re absolutely thrilled with the way this project turned out,” Bonomo said. “We’re now headquartered in this remarkably beautiful space; and both our employees and clients can focus on the dramatic views, and all of the other benefits, without fighting the heat and glare problems.”

At Tintmaster, we trust 3M window films every day to solve all of our customers’ problems with heat, glare, fading, and more. From commercial buildings, to residential homes, to automobiles, RVs, and boats, we can help. Give Tintmaster a call at (916) 852-8468 and we’ll provide the right window tinting solution for you!

4 Tips for Avoiding the Hot Office

Keep Cool While You Work

Blinds & Shades: Believe it or not, keeping your blinds closed all morning and afternoon will keep unwanted heat from your windows at bay. Family Handyman reported that using shades or curtains will help to reduce the up to 30% of unwanted heat that comes directly from your windows.

Invest in a Fan: Thanks to the wind-chill effect, fans allow humans to feel cool in a room that is not so cool. How does it work? Fans blow air over your skin that causes sweat to evaporate quickly and heat to escape even quicker. If you don’t have control over the thermostat, a fan will definitely be a good investment.

Make the Switch to CFLs: Did you know that incandescent lights emit heat? In fact, according to the Center for Sustainable Energy, 90% of this light bulb’s energy is used doing just that. We recommend making the switch to compact fluorescent lamps. Afterall, in a heat wave, every little bit counts.

Window Film: Last but not least, we recommend window tinting film. It may not come as a surprise to you that a window tinting company is recommending window tinting, but what may surprise you are the impressive results that our customers see. The team at Tintmaster Sacramento has seen up to 80% heat reduction. In fact, we have even seen a room drop 20 degrees in the best case scenarios. On average, rooms drop 5 – 15 degrees.

Window Film Protects Furniture, Drapes and Carpet from Fading

Sun Shining through WindowHome and business owners alike love our window tinting for keeping out the infrared rays of the sun. This keeps homes and offices cool and helps to reduce solar heat gain, which in turn, lowers energy bills. But the sun has other rays that, while they don’t cause solar heat gain, they can cause severe fading of interior fabrics and carpet. The Tintmaster pros get questions about fading all the time. What causes fading? Why do some items fade faster than others? Which colors fade the worst? What can I do to prevent fading? We hope to answer those questions and give you a little insight here:

Why Does Ultraviolet Light Cause Color to Fade?

The technical term for fading is photodegradation. Many factors contribute to fading processes, including the physical and chemical structures of the object, the type of dyes or pigments present, the amount and intensity of light, and the temperature and humidity of the environment. Different objects will fade at different rates depending on their chemical makeup. Dyes contain light absorbing color bodies called chromophores. We see colors based on these chemical bonds and the amount of light that is absorbed in a particular wavelength.

Related Read: 3 Reasons to Choose Tintmaster

Fading Is a Chemical Process

When light, particularly ultraviolet light, which has a very short wavelength, hits an object, the energy contained within interacts with the exposed surface. The new energy excites the outer molecules of the object causing chemical bonds, thus reducing the vibrancy of the color and the strength of the object over time. When ultraviolet rays break down the chemical bonds, it causes a bleaching effect. Colors that reflect the light more will fade less. Colors that absorb more light will fade more. Color and molecular damage can never be repaired.

Which Colors Fade the Fastest?

Under most circumstances, red fades the fastest of all visible colors. Short-wavelength light such as blue or violet has greater energy than lower-wavelength light, and red has the longest wavelength of visible colors. Red objects reflect red light but absorb harmful, energy-rich, short-wavelength light.

3M Films Protect Against UV Rays That Cause Fading

3M Window Films are designed to not only reject solar heat, but to reduce fading as well. 3M’s new line of Prestige Series films can provide all of these benefits without changing the look of your home. You really can’t tell it’s even on the windows. At Tintmaster, we use 3M window films because we know they are the best on the market.
